fall festivities, fireplaces fixins

Added...updated reading list

John Mark has left for a week's trip to Kitakyushu, Japan.

He is an invited speaker for a conference. Hopefully, next week or so there should be some Japan pictures to share on this blog.

A few highlights from the last few weeks. We went to a place called XXXX XXXX Farm, just east of Topeka. Besides having a great haunted house (JM and Sam went in, the girls didn't), they had this corn maze.
It was a good thing we had flashlights or we wouldn't have seen anything but the stars. It took forever and we finally called the "corn cops" to escort us out!

They also had these slides provided by a sanatation facility (of all things). This was Autumn's favorite part. There were 3 "slides" (pipes) going off of the top of this thing. I had to lighten it to see the picture in the darkness.

We enjoyed a hayride under the full moon. (terrible pic of hayride here, as you really can't see anything, except JM's smiling face, so here he is!)

Then Autumn and friends played in this teepee filled w/ corn.

Some remodeling updates. The fireplace mantle in the office is finally taking form. The brown marble is what goes around the outside of the fireplace...

The marble was covered while Darren built the mantle around it.

Still hoping against hope, Sam poses. By the way, he if FREEZING in this picture as it's cold and windy! Most of the leaves in the neighborhood have changed color, but our leaves are always the last to change.
Remember the bright read maple in our front yard? Just barely changed. Last year it was at its peak on Nov 17th., so we'll see. Right now...

Lorie, I don't like corn mazes either. Thanks for the blog and all the wonderful pictures. I have enjoyed fall so much! Debby

Caris says they are suppose to get snow tonight. (She read me the weather report over the phone.) I think I would be nervous in a maze. I like them from above. Jen
