Windy Saturday

The kids were off of school yesterday for a teacher work day. Autumn had a friend over, and Sam left around 3:00 for a friends b-day party. This friend lives pretty close to us, and Sam and he and a few other boys have been working on building a fort out in a weeded area by their house. They spent the afternoon working on it, then had the party. They even planted potatoes in the ground around the fort. I guess for sustenance? Then the mother and the boys went out to their lake house (15 min from here). They had a camp fire and spent the night. They're suppose to do some crawdad hunting, paddle boating and tubing on the lake today. The weather is wonderful so I'm sure they're enjoying themselves. The mom of the group is also a doctor, so I'm feeling pretty comfortable with this.

Autumn had a piano competition all morning today. It was held at McCain Auditorium. The students were tested in theory, performance, sight reading, listening, chords, and other things. She had to dress up for it and was pretty nervous about the whole thing. I think she did okay though. We celebrated afterwards by going to the mall and getting Mrs. Powell's cinnamon rolls. Delicious! Then went to Penney's and bought her some tops and a swim suit. She has grown so much in the last 2 months. She's pretty much moved into the next size now.

Sunday we will be working on our 40 Days of Community group project. We're visiting a nursing home and playing games and singing with the old folks. My kids and 3 others are playing the bells. Sam and another girl are playing a duet on their violins. Autumn and another girl will play the piano some. The kids have drawn pictures to hand out. The adults are just concentraing on talking w/ the residents and playing some games with them.

Sam has to do a science fair project once again. This year he's testing different fabrics to see which ones will ignite the fastest under a flame. He's also testing flame retardant material. I couldn't find the flame retardant stuff anywhere. I thought alot of baby clothing was made that way, but also read that they're moving away from that because parents don't like the chemical on their babies. I finally found some youth girl p.j.'s and thought if they don't burn up, Autumn could use them. Sam hates doing these required experiments. Autumn loves doing them. She did one with a partner and now wants to do a solo science expreriment. We've let her do her own in the past years but this year I've begged her to let it go, as it takes alot of doing on the parent part as well. And she's not even required to do them until 4th, 5th, & 6th grades.

Well, that's about it for today. John Mark is working on church finances, then going to the spring football game. Some how I got out of that one this year. I need to study my Sunday School lesson. Hopefully, I'll be able to post a few more pictures today.
