District Quizzing Weekend

We've had a very busy week. JM has been in DC for the past week. He gets home tonight.
Friday the kids didn't have school due to teacher inservice. However, we kept pretty busy. I made a meal for a church member who had surgery (meatloaf, potatoes, carrots, macaroni casserole, french bread) and drove to Riley to deliver it.
The next morning Sam had to leave at 5:50 AM to go to the district quiz meet in Wichita. So I dragged us both out of bed, scraped my windshield in the freezing cold dark morning (our garage door is broken-AGAIN), and drove him to the church. Then stayed awake until Autumn and 3 other kids who qualified for children's district quiz had to leave at 9:00. I was the driver so drove down there to meet up with our teens in the same large church. It was an all day affair.

Sam got 25th out of 50 quizzers.
He just got a hair cut and wore his hood the whole weekend.

Getting ready for the quiz..

Autumn was placed on the B team for our area. They ended up getting second place out of 12 teams! She was pretty excited about that!
Here's her team...

Another girl in our church quizzed for the younger kids (red level) and had her 4th straight perfect quiz. She probably would have got top quizzer for red level except our church didn't go to the September quiz.

All the GOLD medal winners

Interesting thing about the boy to Autumn's right. His parents kept looking at me funny and finally asked who I was. Turns out, they were students at K-State when John Mark was a student here in '94. They went to our church at that time. Now they're married with 3 kids, and this boy is the oldest. They live out in western Kansas.

This group quoted 25 straight verses in one setting. The little girl in front of Autumn in purple is our Red level winner.

Other things that happened this week...Autumn was sick and on a Z-pack. I went to the hospital for a scheduled injection into my shoulder. I always thought I was fine with needles, but I refused to look at the one they put in my shoulder until it was out.

Here's Sam playing DDR in our messy downstairs....

I like Sam's hair. That's great about Autum's team! Emily has never been in quizzing except when at Toledo.

Both kids did good. I would have been last. Do you learn the answers along with them when they study? mom

do they still have those boxes where you pull out the answers (1,2,3,4)? somebody at bradford would always wait and then pull their number out after they had already looked at everyone else's. for some reason it always struck me as really funny when that happened.

what is ddr? or whatever that mat that Sam is standing on?

That was me who looked at the other kids', John. I quizzed one time and it was first grade. Judy Swick and I were next to Tim Robinson. He was so smart, we'd pretty much just watch him and pull out whatever he did. There were only 4 quizzers on our zone and Tim, Judy, and me were three of them. I had no idea what I did was wrong, but I think it's pretty funny now.

DDR= dance, dance, revolution. It's that thing where the arrows are on the screen and you step on the corresponding arrow on the mat while music is playing.

I stayed as far away from quizzing as I could. However, one time I participated in teen quizzing to try and get our church points. All I had to do was get 5 points and we would.. Alas...it didn't happen.
